چکیده

Preface This thesis has been prepared at the IMSOR group of the Institute of Mathematical Modelling (IMM), the Technical University of Denmark, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Ph.D. in engineering. The thesis discuss different aspects of the problem of estimating the visual motion given a sequence of images. The treatment of the subject is not exhaustive, nor detailed, but is intended to provide an insight in motion detection by selected theory and examples. A basic knowledge in the areas of image processing and statistics is required by the reader. Acknowledgements During the pursuit of this work I have drawn on a lot of resources of a technical, social, and, economical nature. I would like to express my gratitude to those who have provided these resources. First of all I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Knut Conradsen, and Dr. Bjarne Kjaer Ersbøll for their guidance and encouragement during the course of this work, and for providing the excellent research facilities of our group at IMSOR, now IMM. Furthermore, I wish to thank my colleagues of the image analysis group at IMM for providing a pleasant and inspiring research as well as social environment. The systematic effort of the group to develop and document software within the HIPS-package has proven invaluable for this work. Especially, I would like to thank Allan Aasbjerg Nielsen for his interest, help, and moral support during all phases of my study. I also thank Anders Rosholm, who implemented some to me very useful algorithms on a massively parallel computer under a CAP project. His interest in the problems concerning the algorithm exceeded anything that might have been expected by reasonable standards. During my stay at the Computer Vision Laboratory at the University of Linköping I received very kind treatment. The stay proved very profitable, and has certainly been important for the contents of this thesis. For that I thank Professor Gösta Granlund and his co-workers. I also thank the Nordic Research Network in Computer Vision for financially supporting me during my stay. v vi Image data was provided by the Danish Meteorological Institute. I wish to than Senior Scientist Hans H. Valeur for his interest in my work. I would also like to use this opportunity to thank the friends I have gotten t know at Studenterforeningen in Copenhagen. The course of this study has co incided with a …

Pseudo Zernike Moment-based Multi-frame Super Resolution

The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...

Computation Optical Flow Using Pipeline Architecture

Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...

New adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation

Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...

تحلیل حرکت جریانات دریائی در تصاویر حرارتی سطح آب دریا

Oceanographic images obtained from environmental satellites by a wide range of sensors allow characterizing natural phenomena through different physical measurements. For instance Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images, altimetry data and ocean color data can be used for characterizing currents and vortex structures in the ocean. The purpose of this thesis is to derive a relatively complete frame...

An Adaptive Hierarchical Method Based on Wavelet and Adaptive Filtering for MRI Denoising

MRI is one of the most powerful techniques to study the internal structure of the body. MRI image quality is affected by various noises. Noises in MRI are usually thermal and mainly due to the motion of charged particles in the coil. Noise in MRI images also cause a limitation in the study of visual images as well as computer analysis of the images. In this paper, first, it is proved that proba...

Integrated motion and geometry based obstacle detection in image sequences of tra c scenes

In this paper a robust method for visual motion estimation under ego{motion is developed. The possible application of this method is image sequence analysis of road tra c or airport runway/taxiway scenes, where the camera is located in a moving vehicle. The method combines an application independent estimation of visual motion with speci c methods for instantaneous detection of the vanishing po...
